Adlai Makes a Friend

Keys! Adlai loves keys. How could I have forgotten to report that? Of course, they must be real keys that fit in real locks and are in active use.

We stayed around town last weekend - a couple of parties, lots of errands, home matinence, etc. Simon was really great in his swim class and was particularly proud. He also started reading simple words out of a library book by sounding them out. On Sunday night we took the boys over to our neighborhood park where we spent a couple of hours. During that time we ran into lots of local kids. Simon made a couple of new friends. Adlai took off with his future classmate, Ally (she's a few weeks younger and her siblings are in school with Simon), and they PLAYED. I think this marks the first time Adlai has played with anyone his own age and it was adorable. They sat at the kid table under the play structure. He immitated her laying back on the slide. He kept trying to hold her hand and wasn't turned off by her pushing him away. They ran around the basketball court side by side, hopping, running, and bumping into each other.

Where is the camera when you need it? Back at home.

Adlai at 21 Months

We're doing well over here. Weekends are filled with trips to San Francisco, Gilroy Gardens Theme Park, school events, and friends. Weekdays are much more routine: play, lunch, school drop off, nap, school pick up, play, dinner, play, bath, bed. Last weekend Simon launched his first rocket over at NASA three times. Adlai met an F-18 pilot and enthusiastically informed him that his F-18 was "a plane!"

Adlai at 21 months is full of energy and interested in everything. He is adorable and talkative and extremely cranky. Cranky of the kind where someone looks at him in the wrong way and he bursts into tears or screams, or hits, or bites, or pushes. It's just lovely. He has one more tooth (we think) before the intense teething is over and then we will start planning the demise of the binky (his one and only true love).

So what does Adlai like at 21 months? Binkies. As many as he can get his hands on. He is also in love with a stuffed Elmo doll and a Big Bird doll. He likes to give them binkies as well. He likes to jump and pretend to use the potty (with some success but, really, we are not thinking much about potty training this early). He likes to be outside - especially in the back yard. He likes music and kicking balls and eating cabbage. He draws and eats play dough and talks about "choo choo trains" and airplanes. When done eating, he throws the food and utensils and cup with a "One... two... three!" He has an amazing arm. He counts to ten and sings the alphabet song. Also? He has started to sleep in until 7 am on a relatively regular basis which makes us appreciate him a heck of a lot - almost enough to forgive him for being cranky.
